Job Summary:
The Security Guard is responsible for controlling entry to the ship during Gangway Operations and conducting screening procedures as outlined in the Security Manual in SQM. Actual operational times will be coordinated according to the ship’s routine.
The Security Guard will patrol the ship during nighttime hours and enforce the Master’s Rules and Regulations. He/she operates under the supervision of the Watchkeeping Officer while acting as a Response Guard or during safety rounds. The Chief Officer Safety and/or Security Officer, Deputy Security Officer, and Security Supervisor are on call to provide assistance as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform all duties in accordance with Royal Caribbean Group’s The Royal Way, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental policies, and safety protocols.; Be flexible to perform various functions across different service venues and areas of the ship as required.; Conduct oneself professionally and courteously at all times, maintaining physical and verbal interactions with guests, fellow crew members, and in guest or crew contact areas, in line with Royal Caribbean’s philosophy of Anchored in Excellence.; Complete the familiarization form outlined in Chapter 2 according to established procedures.; Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Safety and Quality Management Program, Emergency Plan, and Station Bill.; Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Master’s Rules and Regulations, Company policies, and the Security Manual.; Adjust working hours as necessary to align with the ship’s routine.; Monitor security activities during day and night shifts, and maintain a detailed log of nighttime activities for review by the Security Officer.; Be familiar with all duties related to safety rounds and gangway security, following specific instructions in the Security Manual.; Contribute to the safety of the vessel, passengers, and crew through vigilant observation.; During safety rounds, remain alert, follow designated procedures, and be prepared to respond promptly to incidents or fires until additional help arrives.; Assess situations quickly and make informed decisions, especially during emergencies such as fire alarms.; Immediately notify the Duty Officer on the Bridge and other relevant personnel of any incidents.; Be familiar with the location and operation of all safety-related equipment as per Chapter 2.; Follow established procedures in the event of an “Alpha Alpha Alpha” situation, as detailed in the appendices.; Serve as an additional lookout around the vessel to identify and report unusual incidents or potential problems involving passengers, crew, or ship property.; Report any abuse of ship’s property or violations of shipboard regulations promptly.; Be familiar with procedures for handling passenger complaints.; Conduct regular security inspections of crew quarters during duty hours.; Attend meetings, training sessions, courses, and other work-related activities as required.; Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors or management.;

Qualifications and Education
Hiring Requirements:
Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in one or more of the following: Army, Maritime, Aviation, Police, or Hotel Security.; Experience in physical security, with emphasis on access control, security screening methods, and operation of screening equipment (e.g., X-ray, metal detectors, explosives/narcotics detection).; Ability to operate effectively in a multinational environment.; Organizational skills, literacy, and basic computer knowledge are preferred.; Hold the STCW 95 Basic Safety Training certification.; Familiarity with the operation and handling of security screening and emergency equipment onboard.; Prior knowledge of the ISPS Code..;
Language Requirements
Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and courteously with guests.; Proficiency in reading and writing English to understand procedures and instructions, and to communicate effectively.; Knowledge of additional languages such as Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, or others is advantageous.;
Physical Requirements
Regularly required to stand, walk, handle objects, reach, talk, and hear.; Occasionally or frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.; Must possess good vision (including near, far, color, peripheral, and depth perception) and the ability to adjust focus.; Physically capable of participating in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills, including operating lifeboats.; Full use of arms, legs, and senses to perform duties effectively and safely.;
Candidates are expected to work on board an international cruise ship.
