Unmanned Aircraft Technician

Cellen H2, Inc. · Erie, CO, USA · Part-time or Full-time

Cellen builds hydrogen-powered multirotor drones that deliver industry-leading endurance. We are expanding our manufacturing and test operations in Erie, Colorado, and seek a hands‑on Unmanned Aircraft Technician to assemble, maintain, and troubleshoot our hydrogen UAV fleet.

What You’ll Do

Complete Aircraft Assembly & Commissioning

● Perform aircraft assembly and commissioning on hydrogen‑powered unmanned aircraft systems, including airframes, electronics, sensors, payloads, controllers, and embedded flight‑controller software.

● Conduct functional tests and operational checks after assembly or repair to verify proper system functionality and performance.

● Ensure compliance with manufacturer maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and airworthiness directives when performing repairs and modifications.

Maintenance & Inspections

● Perform routine maintenance tasks on unmanned aircraft systems, including pre‑flight inspections, system checks, and post‑flight servicing.

● Conduct scheduled maintenance to ensure airworthiness and compliance with manufacturer specifications, including fuel‑cell health checks, battery checks, propulsion‑system inspections, and software updates.

● Document maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and component replacements, following regulatory requirements and company procedures.

Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

● Troubleshoot technical issues and malfunctions in unmanned aircraft systems using diagnostic tools, software, and technical manuals.

● Identify and diagnose problems related to propulsion systems, avionics, navigation systems, communication links, payload equipment, fuel‑cell balance‑of‑plant, and high‑pressure hydrogen storage.

● Collaborate with engineering and technical support teams to develop solutions and implement corrective actions for complex technical issues.

Safety & Compliance

● Adhere to safety protocols, SOPs, and all regulatory requirements governing hydrogen‑powered unmanned aircraft systems.

● Maintain awareness of airspace regulations, flight restrictions, and operational limitations.

● Participate in safety briefings, risk assessments, and incident investigations to mitigate hazards and ensure compliance with aviation and hydrogen regulations.

Fleet Management, Training & Physical Handling

● Provide training and guidance to UAV operators and maintenance personnel on aircraft maintenance, hydrogen‑cylinder handling, pre‑flight checks, and emergency protocols.

● Lift and maneuver a 55 lb aircraft between workbench, launch site, and test stands multiple times per day; perform two‑person lifts of crated systems weighing up to 120 lb when required.

● Manage the air‑systems fleet by maintaining accurate records of maintenance logs, equipment history, inventory, and hydrogen‑usage data.

● Prepare reports and documentation for regulatory authorities, internal audits, and compliance reviews as required.

Required Qualifications

● Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

● High‑reliability soldering training to IPC‑J‑STD‑001 and harness‑assembly training to IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 (or suitable equivalents).

● Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.

● Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

● Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to non‑technical personnel.

● Commitment to safety, compliance, and professionalism in all UAV and hydrogen operations.

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience with the design, manufacture, or maintenance of unmanned aircraft systems or robotic systems.

● Knowledge of aviation regulations, airworthiness standards, and maintenance procedures for UAVs.

● Proven experience in aircraft maintenance, preferably with unmanned aircraft systems.

● Hands‑on experience with UAV airframes, propulsion systems, avionics, and payload equipment.

● Current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (or willingness to obtain, Cellen H2 will sponsor).

● Ability to travel within the U.S. and internationally.

Compensation & Benefits

● Pay (W‑2 employees): $25 – $39 per hour (equivalent to $52,000 – $81,000 per year for full‑time).

● Pay (1099 contractors): $28 – $44 per hour in lieu of company benefits.

● Benefits (full‑time W‑2): medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

● Part‑time W‑2: benefits prorated according to hours worked.
