Job Title: Tower Technician – Construction

Location: Parkersburg, WV (must be willing to cover Appalachian Mountains)

Job Type: Full-Time, Regular, Hourly

Pay Rate: $30.00 per hour + $145 per diem and mileage reimbursement

Position Overview

The Tower Technician will lead and support the construction, installation, and maintenance of telecommunications towers, antenna systems, and related equipment. This role requires strong leadership skills to manage a four-person crew, technical expertise in wireless infrastructure, and a commitment to safety and quality standards. Technicians will work at significant heights, in varying weather conditions, and must be willing to travel extensively.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Safety

• Lead tower crews to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant project execution.
• Conduct and complete daily Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and ensure compliance with company and customer safety standards.
• Inspect and verify safe use of all tools, rigging gear, and climbing equipment.
• Mentor and train less experienced tower technicians.

Tower & Equipment Work

• Climb and work on towers (100+ feet) while carrying up to 50 lbs. of equipment.
• Install, repair, and maintain antennas, radios, RRUs, RET systems, coax, jumpers, TMAs, and weatherproofing.
• Perform antenna alignment using GPS tools (Sunsight AAT).
• Stack towers, install sector mounts, and perform tape drops.
• Troubleshoot and repair RET systems, GPS antennas, and tower lighting systems.
• Conduct RF, PIM, sweep, TMA gain, and noise floor testing.
• Perform microwave dish and radio installations.
• Operate winches and catheads safely.

Documentation & Project Execution

• Review and understand project Scopes of Work (SOW).
• Develop and write detailed Methods of Procedure (MOP).
• Ensure projects are completed within budget, on schedule, and to company/customer quality standards.
• Maintain accurate reports and communicate effectively with supervisors and project managers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3–4 years of experience in the telecommunications tower industry.
• Strong knowledge of tower construction, rigging techniques, and RF systems.
• Experience with:
• Anritsu Site Master, Andrew/PPC equipment, tower mapping.
• Stacking self-support towers, installing waveguide, antennas, and microwave dishes.
• Coax replacement, grounding, connectors, and weatherproofing.
• Certifications/Training: ComTrain, OSHA 10, RF Awareness, First Aid/CPR.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
• Ability to lift 70+ lbs. and perform physically demanding work at heights.
• Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight stays.

Travel & Per Diem Policy

• Applicable to non-exempt employees.
• Paid per diem: $145/day if hotel is paid out-of-pocket; $50/day meal per diem if lodging is company-paid.
• Mileage reimbursement with prior manager approval.

Work Environment

• Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, heights, and mechanical equipment.
• Frequent exposure to electrical hazards, vibration, and moderate noise.
• Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.
• Requires extensive climbing, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and lifting.
