Job Description

Position Summary:

Provides dedicated legal support to Achieva Family Trust with a primary emphasis on the administration and compliance of Income Spend Down Trusts (ISDTs). Performs various legal tasks including research, document preparation and case management. Works closely with individuals, families, and professionals to establish and manage ISDTs in accordance with applicable regulations. Coordinates information related to the preparation of trust tax returns and payments. Reports to the Trust Attorney and supports broader legal activities of the Trust as needed.

Responsibilities:
  1. Supports the legal activities of Achieva Family Trust.
  2. Monitors payments received from Income Spend Down Trust beneficiaries to ensure compliance with program requirements.
  3. Conducts presentations and trainings to educate groups about Achieva Family Trust services, including Income Spend Down Trusts.
  4. Performs legal research using various sources and databases; summarizes research and prepares reports.
  5. Drafts documents pertaining to various trust issues or issues related to trust beneficiaries.
  6. Assists with the review of trust documents and other legal documents, and prepares analysis.
  7. Corresponds with attorneys, beneficiaries, family members, and others regarding potential or existing trust accounts.
  8. Assists with the opening and closing of trust accounts.
  9. Updates trust information systems regarding the status of trusts and/or other issues.
  10. Works with tax preparation firm(s) and coordinates information related to the preparation of various trust tax returns and related payments.
  11. Reviews invoices, bills, and other reports from trust tax preparer(s) for accuracy and processes them for payment.
  12. Assists with other trust administration functions and projects as requested. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Paralegal Studies or related field
  • A Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program is preferred
  • Proven experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in legal research databases and software
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and maintain sensitive information
  • Strong organizational and time management skills 
  • Experience and/or interest in the area of estates and trusts, tax and/or disability field preferred. 
  • Must meet Act 33 and 34 requirements.
