Job Description

Homies - Supportive Roommate Opportunity

Living to thriving!

About Homies

Homies is a life-sharing program dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities. We create innovative living arrangements that foster independence, community engagement, and personal growth across Southern California.

Think of it as a modern take on caregiving! One that’s rooted in mutual respect, choice, and connection by life-sharing.

As a Supportive Roommate, you’re not just helping someone with their day-to-day needs, but you’re also sharing a home, building a relationship, and supporting them in living a full, independent life. You might help with things like grocery shopping, encouraging social/community engagement, supporting daily routines, and a positive support system.

But you’re not doing this alone; you choose who you live with, you agree together on what your shared life looks like, and you’ll be supported by the Homies team every step of the way! This isn’t a traditional caregiving job. It’s a shared lifestyle, designed to benefit both people involved—centered around the individual’s unique needs and goals. You’ll be trained on their personalized support plan and equipped to help them thrive through a person-centered approach.

Your Unique Opportunity

This is not your traditional job—it’s a transformative living arrangement designed to create mutual growth, purpose, and connection.

How It Works

  1. Create your Supportive Roommate profile
  2. Get matched with a Homie whose needs align with your strengths and preferences
  3. Meet and interview to explore compatibility
  4. Mutually agree on a living arrangement
  5. Begin your supportive living journey

What Makes This Special

  • Help create pathways from living to thriving by supporting the development of person-centered communities
  • Be part of a team where individuals are empowered and valued
  • Earn competitive, tax-free compensation
  • Collaborate with your Homie and their support circle to build a home rooted in trust, respect, and shared goals
  • Receive personalized training on your Homie’s customized support plan to help them achieve their unique goals

Your Role

  • Provide daily living support and promote personal independence
  • Help create a nurturing, supportive home environment
  • Support engagement in community activities and relationships
  • Celebrate progress and milestones—big and small—with your Homie
  • Deliver skill-building opportunities and supervision
  • Complete daily charting and documentation
  • Help implement and track individualized goals and therapeutic behavior plans
  • Assist with medical appointments and maintain clear communication with the support team
  • Support individuals in taking medications as prescribed and maintain accurate records
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and trainings
  • Take initiative to provide opportunities for personal development and community inclusion

Compensation & Flexibility

  • Up to $50,000 per year (tax-free) — equivalent to a $60,000 pre-tax salary
  • Permanent contract position
  • Flexible schedule that fits your lifestyle
  • Choose where you live within Southern California
  • Ongoing support from the dedicated Homies team

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking compassionate individuals who:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have a valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Are open to a non-traditional, shared living arrangement
  • Are looking for a meaningful and rewarding experience
  • Come from all backgrounds—specific experience is valued but not required

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience supporting individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities or in a related field
  • FBI/DOJ clearance before starting
  • Health screening and TB clearance
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Automobile insurance, valid driver’s license, and DMV printout
  • Experience with medical conditions and behavioral support plans (highly desirable)
  • Willingness to complete required training, including 12 hours of annual in-service training
  • A strong commitment to person-centered care and individualized support
