Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The CNC Machinist sets up and runs CNC machines to make metal or plastic parts following blueprints or computer designs (CAD/CAM Designs). They ensure parts are made accurately, keep machines in good condition through preventative maintenance, and fix any problems to meet quality and deadline requirements.

OBJECTIVES

● Achieve 99%+ dimensional accuracy on all machined aircraft components to meet strict aerospace tolerances.

● Consistently meet or exceed daily production targets without compromising quality or safety.

● Ensure zero scrap or rework by performing thorough in-process inspections and final quality checks.

● Maintain optimal machine uptime by conducting routine preventive maintenance and immediate troubleshooting.

● Accurately interpret and execute complex CAD/CAM designs from engineering blueprints and specifications.

● Document all production data and deviations meticulously to comply with industry quality standards.

● Collaborate proactively with engineering and quality teams to identify and implement process improvements.

● Strictly adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace consistent with Desert Aircraft’s operational standards.

COMPETENCIES

● Highest priority is to set up and operate CNC lathe machines to produce parts with precise dimensions.

● Will require programming understanding with interpreting technical drawings and creating or modifying CNC programs using G-code, M-code, or CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360).

● Experience with tooling, selecting, installing, and aligning tools, fixtures, and materials for machining processes.

● High focus on quality, as quality control fosters the brand guarantees that we insure for our finished product, this includes inspecting finished parts using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM) to ensure compliance with specifications.

● Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshoot malfunctions to minimize downtime, while doing preventative maintenance to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and safety are prioritized.

● Record production data, including quantities, measurements, and any deviations from specifications to ensure standardization and product quality.

● Adhere to workplace safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

● Strong attention to detail and capability to be solutions oriented, always seeking ways to improve processes.

● Daily and weekly collaboration with engineers, designers, and other team members to optimize production processes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

● High school diploma or GED or certification in CNC machining preferred.

● 1-3 years of experience operating CNC lathe machines

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

● $30.00 - $38.00/hour

● M-F (9:00AM to 5:00PM)

● 40 hours a week

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

● Ability to stand for long periods, lift moderate weights (e.g., 50 lbs), and work in a manufacturing environment.
