The Assistant Head of School (AHOS) will collaborate with and support the Head of School (HOS) in running the day-to-day operations of our authentic Montessori school, including admissions & enrollment, human relations, certification, accreditation, and administrative duties. This position reports directly to the HOS, and in the absence of the HOS, this position will make those decisions generally belonging to the HOS.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in any area (required)
Master’s degree in any area (preferred)
Montessori certification at any level (AMI, AMS or IMC required)
Director’s credential (required)
Minimum of 4 years of experience working in a Montessori classroom (preferred)
Experience working in school administration (required)

Job Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
Collaboration with Head of School
Work closely with HOS in matters relating to staff, students, and parents
Assist HOS in defining, communicating and enforcing policies and procedures
Contribute to the agenda of and attend administrative and staff meetings
Assist in the recruitment and interview process of school staff
Participate in development of strategies to diminish attrition and increase retention for staff and students
Assist HOS with other administrative tasks as requested
Management
Manage hiring process and new employee on-boarding
Manage teachers, staff, and student files to ensure compliance, completeness and accuracy
Support HOS in the admissions process, including external communications, scheduling interviews and tours, reviewing applications, and tracking of enrollment
Support teachers with classroom and curriculum needs, oversee schedules, support daily activity and special events
Coordinate scheduling of before-care and after-care as needed
Coordinate scheduling of enrichments, specials, and all therapists
Oversee all Department of Health inspections, complaints, and documentation & requirements
Communication
Maintain positive rapport with all members of the staff
Be a spokesperson for Montessori and the school
Maintain focus on the need, timing and method of communications to parents and staff
Create annual school calendar, update and maintain throughout the school year
Create and distribute monthly calendars to families and staff throughout the school year
Contribute to and manage the distribution of weekly “blurbs” and quarterly newsletters
Help edit all communications that are sent as a voice of the school, including letters and emails from staff to families and fundraising communications written by parents
Daily Operations
Daily oversight of staff, including monitoring late arrivals, early departures, PTO usage & coverage and substitute coverage
Oversee student attendance and ensure completeness and accuracy of records
Get to know all students and parents by name
Manage staff during and oversee morning and afternoon car line
Oversee orderliness of office and assist in maintaining safe and clean conditions on campus
Be available to assist with sick children and contact parents as needed
Meet regularly with HOS to inform and collaborate on daily operations of teachers, staff, and students
